Our Motto
Our Motto
This phrase is more than just a motto — it’s a guiding principle that reflects the spirit of discipline, tradition, and mastery at the heart of our school.
It is related that a woman once brought a boy of hers to Imam al-Shāfi‘ī and asked him to teach him archery, to which he assented, "He must," she said, "be strong in both firsts, quick at both points, and free from both faults." She turned on her heels, and the Imam al-Shāfi‘ī quickly rose to pay her respect and asked her to which family she belonged. She told him she was descended from Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqās. "You speak the truth," he said. "This is indeed his teaching."
This story is even more fitting because Imam al-Shāfi'ī was a master archer. Renowned not only for his scholarship and poetry, he was said to have hit the mark ten times out of ten — a symbol of dedication, discipline, and excellence in both form and spirit.
At our school, we embrace this motto as an ideal and a lived practice. It reminds us that archery is not merely about hitting a target — it’s about shaping character through focus, repetition, and humility.
"If you think archery is only about hitting the bullseye, then you have completely missed the target"
Every great archer begins with a single arrow, but it is through effort, patience, and principled action that they find their true mark.
